Water for the Cesar Chavez Garden

We need your help for our community garden to continue to thrive into the future! A new water source is needed for our garden-- relying on neighboring properties for water is no longer available to us.  Our garden provides a place for 35 families to grow healthy food for their communities. We want to preserve this garden space and without a reliable source of water, the land will be developed like so many other lots in our city.

The Cesar Chavez Community Garden is located in the Woodstock neighborhood at Cesar Chavez Boulevard/Ellis Street in Portland. It is a place of peace, beauty and productivity. The 10,000 square foot plot serves as a food growing space for neighbors, families, immigrants and refugees, as well as a learning and therapeutic space for a preschool, those with developmental disabilities, and people transitioning from homelessness. The garden also provides a green space along a busy city street at a time when fewer and fewer open plots of land are available.

For the garden to exist into the future, however, it has become necessary to install a dedicated City water meter for irrigation. The cost of this City water meter is over $9,000. We are Grow Portland, a nonprofit dedicated to urban gardening, and have managed the garden since 2012. We need your support to help cover the cost of this water meter.

Please donate as generously as you can toward a water meter to keep this garden available for our community into the future.
