Washington State Science and Engineering Fair

Students in our genomics program have been working on independent research projects since the beginning of last year.  At the end of March, these students have the opportunity to present their research at a the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair, and compete with other students in Washington.  

Our students have the potential to win thousands of dollars worth of scholarships and qualify for an all expense paid trip to the the Intel International Science Fair.   

Projects this year include: 

-          Comparison of TRPV3 mutations in Columbian and Wooly Mammoth

-          Comparison of PER2 in Grizzly, Black and Polar Bears

-          Analysis of MAOA SNP polymorphism associated with aggression in Canines

-          Analysis of soil bioremediation of total petroleum hydrocarbon and PCBs

-          An analysis of TRPV3 mutations in Bactrian Camels and ancient Camelops

-          Analysis of EDAR SNP mutations in Columbian Mammoth

-          Analysis of the MAOA-VNTR polymorphism in Prison populations using fragment analysis

-          Identification of Spotted, Barred and hybrid spotted/barred owls by SNP identification

-          An analysis of gene expression variability between captive bred vs wild snails

-          Phosphorus bioremediation by native algal species

-          Sequencing and expression level polymorphisms in KLF11 between wild and diabetic mice

-          Drought tolerant PGPR associated with native Spokane plants and their ability to be transferred to non-native crop species.
