August Terry is nine years old and lives in Satellite Beach, Florida. August adores school, Girl Scouts, ice skating, going to the beach, crocheting and playing her ukulele. August has an older brother Mason (11) and a younger sister Allison (6) and lives with her loving and supportive parents, Travis and Wendy Terry.
On Monday, September 17, 2018 - life took a very unexpected turn for the Terry family and their entire world changed overnight. After what was originally thought to be a minor injury to her arm, August was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. Ewing's Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer (fewer than 1000 cases per year in the US) that occurs in or near the bones.
Only 4 days after her diagnosis, August began chemotherapy on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando, FL. August will soon undergo surgery to receive a titanium replacement for the majority of her left humerus where her cancer is isolated. An orthopedic surgeon will perform the surgery at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL after which August will continue chemotherapy and may also need radiation treatment.
Through it all, August's love of school endures as she continues to work with her teachers through the painful side effects of chemotherapy. August is working hard to keep up with her classmates and is anxious to return to Freedom 7 Elementary. Despite the challenges, the Terry family is working hard to stay positive and maintain some normalcy for both August and her siblings.
The money raised from this campaign will be used to offset the medical expenses, meals, travel costs, prescription medicines, and other financial challenges the Terry family is currently tackling and will continue to encounter for the foreseeable future. Please consider helping raise funds to assist August and her family with all these unplanned expenses. No contribution is too small to make an impact.
