Walton Gould Day

Walton Gould or “Lil Gould” as many knew him by, was a resident of The Hill section of Spring Valley.
He was a graduate of Ramapo High School and went on to obtain a dual Bachelor's degree from the University of Albany in African American studies and Political Science.
At the time of his death in 1997, Lil Gould was enrolled at The School of Social Welfare at University of Albany working towards a degree in Social Work and was considering becoming a lawyer to help the less fortunate who were caught up in the criminal justice system. He even entertained the idea of running for public office.
Walton was a kind hearted and loving soul. He was an advocate for higher education even disclosing that he himself had a learning disability.
Walton went on to excel in his studies because he refused to allow that label stop him from trying to achieve his goals.
Determined to be an agent of change, he devoted much of his free time arranging activities in the community such as job fairs, community expositions and block party to get members of the community registered to vote and parties for both adults and youth.
As we approach the 20th anniversary of his death, we the family and friends would like to honor Lil Gould by holding a Walton Gould Day on Saturday June 10, 2017 from 1-8pm at the Walton Gould Children’s Park located on the corner of Fred Hecht and Bethune Blvd.
It will be a day filled with games, food, music, fun and positive vibes.
To make this happen we are asking for donations which would be used towards making this day a success, revitalizing the Walton Gould Children's Park and hopefully to allow us to plan future activities that would benefit the children of our community.
Volunteers are needed to ensure that this day runs smoothly.
