Walnut's Blood Transfusion
Walnut, 2yr 7month old German Shepard mix dog is needing a blood transfusion in order to survive. I have exhausted all funds available on exams, medication, testing and treatment at three different animal hospitals including an emergency room. PLEASE READ HIS STORY AND CONSIDER DONATING.
On Wednesday, July 06, Walnut was taken to Preston Road Pet Hospital for a nose bleed. There we were told that he had been poisoned by rat poison and was bleeding out to death. He was started on vitamin K shots and capsules to help build his body up to have the ability to clot his blood again. The day's continued and his bleeding never stopped.
On Saturday, July 09, I took him to Gulfgate Animal Hospital for a second opinion. There they ran diagnostics and an X-ray. It came back that his Red Blood Cell and Platelet count is EXTREMELY LOW. He is indeed bleeding out on the inside of his body.
I was told to take him to the emergency room to get a blood transfusion. Otherwise, he will die.
Once we arrived at VCA Animal Hospital, they ran more tests. I was given an amount in the "thousands" by the vet Dr.Paige, in order to have the blood transfusion done. She never gave an exact amount. As all of my funds had already been exhausted I couldn't have the transfusion completed. All they were able to give him was a steroid and hope that would help his body stop fighting against itself.
Walnut is my dear baby, I rescued February 19,2014. He was living in an abandoned home/yard. I saw him while pet sitting for family friends. The minute I saw him, I knew he would be coming home with me. That is exactly what happened. I took him home and ever since that day he has been a part of our family. I love him with all that I have and I'm going to try my best to keep him around for more years. For those of you that know Walnut, you know he's full of love and happiness and wouldn't hurt a fly. He's my big baby, and lap dog. Please keep our family in your prayers.
Thank you,
Catalina Prieto

A friend was going to try to get me a loan. He asked how much the transfusion would cost. I called VCA Animal Hospital (281)247-0190, and was told since Walnut needs plasma and platelets, the minimum amount would be $2,000. That is why I raised the goal. Thank you.
