John "Woody" Orofino here and thanks for visiting my GoFundMe page.
Since my mom's passing in May 2014, I've made it a mission of mine to do everything I can to raise awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer research.
In the past 4 years I've hiked the 221 mile John Muir Trail, 90 mile High Sierra Trail and cycled the 551 trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles on Highway 1. Through these fundraising events, we've been able to raise over $100,000 for Ovarian Cancer Research.
This year, I'll be heading back to the Pacific Coast and tackling the 60 mile Lost Coast Trail with the goal to raise funds and awareness for Ovarian Cancer.
This year my goal is to raise $30,000 for the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Center. 
The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be more than 22,000 new cases of Ovarian Cancer diagnosed this year, and that more than 15,000 women will die as a result.
When one is diagnosed and treated in the earliest stages, the 5-year survival rate is more than 90%. Due to Ovarian Cancer's non-specific symptoms and lack of early detection tests, only 19% of all cases are found at this early stage. If caught in stage III or higher, the survival rate can be as low as 30.6%.

Losing my mother was and is the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with, but each year we are able to raise awareness and funds, gives us the opportunity to decrease the amount of mothers, daughters, sisters and role models we lose every year.
