Peace Project in South Korea 2019

How can we live together in peace?
In September 2019, we will go to South Korea to explore this question. To listen, to discuss and to learn what it means to live peace in the 21th century. From the journey and all the meetings, we will make a documentary called "Living Peace".
Background
2016 Albin began a peace-walk from his native Sweden through Europe. He walked for 12 months to learn more about peace through every-day meetings and discussions all along the way. The walk, called “Walk2Peace”, went for 4000km down to Serbia, with thousands of meetings along the way.
The Walk2Peace had a simple intention - to learn more about peace by walking. Despite this simplicity, it had many positive results. Out of a meeting with the UN HQ in Vienna, we got the idea to create a playful app for iPhone which spreads awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,called “Peacegame” . Another result was an online course for inner peace and communication skills, www.peacebasics.com.
In 2019, Albin met the filmmaker David and they began to make plans for another peace project, this time in South Korea.
The Plan
In early September, we will begin on Jeju Island, or “Island of Peace” as it is also called. Here we will seek out the non-violent resistance movement which has been going on for decades, struggling against the presence of a US naval base on the island. Afterwards, we will travel by ferry to the mainland and make three longer hikes along a pilgrims trail known as “Baekdu-Daegan” , for about two weeks.
The Baekdu-Daegan is a mountain ridgeline that traverses the entire Korean peninsula and has a special place in Korean culture and folklore. It is ridden with temples, shrines and small villages. After this, we will travel to the DMZ, the “de-militarized-zone” between the two Koreas, (a zone which despite the name, is heavily fortified on both sides). We will then end the journey in Seoul, and meet up with organizations active within peace and environmental movements.
We figure that if there is one place on Earth we can really learn a lot about peace from, it is in the country that has lived on the brink of war for more than half a century.
For this project, we have also been given a sacred Buddhist vase from Nepal to be buried along the way. The vase is part of a global project for healing, peace and reconciliation with similar vases being buried all around the Earth for over 25 year! You can read more here: www.earthtreasurevase.org

Former physicist, degree in psychology, mindfulness instructor, entrepreneur and peace-educator. Albin founded the company “Modern Mindfulness” in 2012 which gives courses for wellbeing and inner peace based on modern psychology and mindfulness.
David Roxendal
Filmmaker, inventor, tiny house builder, homesteader, web developer and permaculture educator. David has run his own company and helped start/develop several NGOs since the age of 13.
