Medical Care for Waianae’s Dogs

Donation protected
Pu’uhonua o Wai’anae is home to over 300 of Hawai’i’s people. What started as a houseless encampment has become a community and transitional shelter located near the Wai’anae boat harbor. PAWS of Hawai’i, a non-profit animal rescue, has helped to find adoptive families for many of the houseless dogs from Waianae. We received several pleas to help dogs living at the boat harbor in need of medical attention. Many members do not have the transportation or funds for veterinary care. Of the 144 dogs that belong to the families at Pu’uhonua o Wai’anae, we found only 4 have been spayed/neutered. Dr. Kelly from Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services has partnered with us to provide veterinary care and spay/neuter to the animals of Pu’uhonua o Wai’anae. Our collective goal is to raise enough funds to provide full veterinary care for each of the dogs. In order to offer this as a free service to the 140+ dogs at this camp, we need your help!

All monetary donations sponsor the following medical care for a dog in need:

$5: Deworming + Nail Trim

$10: Deworming + Nail Trim + Microchip

$25: Deworming + Nail Trim + Microchip + Vaccines

$40: Deworming + Nail Trim + Microchip + Vaccines + Heartworm test + Heartworm prevention

$80: Deworming + Nail Trim + Microchip + Vaccines + Heartworm test + Heartworm prevention + Flea/Tick Prevention + Sterilization (Spay/Neuter) + Medications

How will my donation help to save lives? Many of the dogs/puppies we have taken in from Wai’anae have life threatening viruses (Parvo, Corona, Bordatella) or intestinal parasites (Giardia, Coccidia and worms). There is also a large number of dogs that reproduce because the majority are not spay/neutered. Each dog whose care is sponsored equals one less dog spreading infectious viruses and reproducing. Leading to more healthy, happy dogs and less dogs in need of homes.

Can I bring my own dog to receive these low cost services? This is a specific project servicing the families in Pu’uhonua o Wai’anae, living at the boat harbor. Our veterinarian, Dr. Kelly, has donated her time and is providing all medical resources at cost to help this community. Please contact Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services to sign up for low cost and high quality veterinary care through the clinic.

How much of my donation goes to the houseless dogs? 100% of your donation will be put towards caring for the dogs.

I want to provide a home for a dog in need, will these dogs be up for adoption? Majority of the dogs in this camp will not be up for adoption. They are the emotional support animals or dear companions for the families living at the boat harbor. Most of the families have just 1-3 dogs. If you are interested in fostering or adoption please contact us at Facebook.com/pawsofhawaii.

Can I volunteer to help? Please send us a message at Facebook.com/pawsofhawaii to Volunteer at the event.
