[Paused] Change the world: make me a doctor!

Donation protected
Update: Hi! I paused the campaign because I am trying new paths in my life. I had not give up the goal of become a doctor, but I don't think is right to keep the campaign active  when I am trying new ways and new adventures. The money I got so far will remain save and untouched. If in the future I give up in this dream I will return the money or check to the donors if they are okay to give it to someone in need, like a medicine student or a hospital. If still you want to donate to my campaign feel free to do it, as I said the money for the cause will remain untouched. Thanks for all your support!

"When I grow up I want to be a doctor. And I will cure the HIV".
I wrote that in my first diary when I was a 8 years old girl. Now I am 26, and I have found a lot of obstacles to reach my goal, but also more reasons to keep fighting.

The most powerful of those reasons is also the most recent: I discovered my grandfather story, he was a rural doctor. And what a doctor!
You see, I moved from Venezuela to a galician village (Spain). My grandpa was already several decades dead when I arrive to his old house, but everyone in the village reach unto me to tell me how my grandpa saved lives, vaticcinate kids and use money of his own pocked to help his patients.
All this in a time where two world wars, a civil war was and a dictatorship were hitting with hungry and poverty the nation.

I always knew that what my grandpa did with his life is the only valid reason to become a doctor: help people.
But it was different see the effect directly in the persons that were his patients.
I can only think how beautiful was my grandpa's work that was able to create a love so grateful that survived the time, long and strong enough, to even bless a grandchild he could never meet.
I can't forget the happiness of the people he helped when they meet me or their great desire to give back the favor (I actually think i didn't had to bought anything made in a farm for a whole year, honest!)
My grandparent is long gone and that small village now don't needs rural doctors like him anymore.

But the world is full of villages, or even cities, with people in need for doctors like my grandpa or like the one I will become with your help.

So, whats the plan?

I will go and studied medicine en Buenos Aires University (Argentina)

Why there?

-The Buenos Aires University admit foreign students and everyone who want to study. It does not exclude people based on their grades or some test. It only apply a filter year so people can check if they like the career they choose.

-As a venezuelan I don't have legal obstacles to live in Argentina

- The Buenos Aires University has a good reputation. It has four Nobel prize winners (Including two in the medicine field). The QS ranking says is betweent the best 75 universities in the world and is the number 9 in latinoamerica. [You can check the ranking info in this web: https://www.topuniversities.com/universities/universidad-de-buenos-aires-uba/undergrad ]

- The cost: Is free. Yes, free.

What's the money for? ( US Dolars)

- Plane ticket 1.200 $

- Rent 376,61$ per month (+ deposit and other possible charges) [Source:https://preciosmundi.com/argentina/precio-vivienda-salarios]

- Food 100$ per month [Source:https://emigrante.com.ve/cuanto-cuesta-vivir-en-argentina-2018/ ]

- School material -Unknow. This online shop it gives a idea of the most expensives books (the prices are show in the Argentina coin): https://libros.mercadolibre.com.ar/libros/cs-medicas-naturales/medicina/

I want to have budget for some months as I get a half time job. I want to be able to focus in my studies to be a good doctor, I aim to get a estimate that don't force me to take three jobs that drain my time and energy, become a bad doctor is not allowed!

Something you should know:

I move back to Venezuela a year ago because I was told that some political changes opened the way to study medicine here. But after a year of procedures, burocracy and money waste I am in a worse situation that at the start. Besides: the venezuelan universities are closing because there's not money or even professors. When I become a doctor I can help my country but for now I have to go away again.

What I am doing to get my money myself?

- Right now i have two jobs: the main one as journalist and I get pay around 10 US Dolars per month. The second one as scriptwriter for around 1 US dolar per session (1-2 sessions per month).

With this I can't buy enough food or anything, as you may know Venezuela is a bad shape and even if I don't want to use that as a excuse is a reality that make traditional hard work and savings useless. I divide my earnings in rent, food and help my family.

- Online courses: In my free time I also take online courses to become a programer and learn another skills that can help me win money. Right now I am learning python.

The good thing about programming is that I don't need a diploma to work in the field, there's plenty job offers and I can work from home, so it even can become my way to pay the bills when I starts in the medicine school.

Another doubts you can have:

-How come I was able to move to Spain for my own but now I don't have money?: I went to Spain using my dad's savings. It was a big sacrifice for him and he can't help me anymore.

-What others ways to become doctor I tried?

1) I tried to enter in the medicine school when I graduate from high school, but back then it was necessary to took the science branch from the start of your high school years to be able to go into medicine school. Sadly that branch is not available for everyone (there was not enough professors). In that time I decided to study journalism and I got into the best university of Venezuela. I enjoyed my career and for some time I give up with the medical school.

2) In Spain I searched for public and private universities but the prices where to high for me. Also the access to the medicine school for a person from a totally different school system is not easy or even possible in some cases.

3) European special programs: there's a lot of companies that promise you that they can get you into a university in a far away european country. I checked all the services of this type I could, all of them ask too much money and where fools traps, internet is full of reviews from people scamed.

4) I came back to Venezuela because the high school branch thing didn't matter anymore... Or I least that was the political decision, but universities refuse to accept the change. So, I found a high school for adults that was open to help me and for months I took classes of the science branch but they didn't manage to make the paper part work.

- Are not you too old to become doctor?

No.

A doctor will study during all its life, so even if I started medicine school after high school I would be now in the middle of some serious study time. I did the math: I have plenty of time to study and go help people. Besides, a benefit of the Buenos Aires University is that its students start to working with patients a lot before that in other universities.

Actually my age and experience give me advantage, I already know how to face a university career, I know how to deal with big amounts of stress and I already answered the life questions that bring so many chaos to the university years.

Plus: Internet is full of stories of people that went very "late" to the medical school. This is a dream that don't have expiration date.

- Why the location of this campaing is set in France?

The Venezuelan situation makes difficult managing the money from the country and actually is not possible set a campaign with Venezuela as location in GoFundMe. So a friend is helping manage the camping from France, where the money is safe and easy to use.
