Kim’s Medical Expenses!

Mom (Kim) has been fighting a long list of medical issues.  Since Christmas Eve she has been out of the hospital a total of 7 days.  She has adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, infected wounds, heart problems etc...  In March she went to the hospital by ambulance, she was in a life-threatening heart rhythm called Ventricular Tachycardia.  During transport she had to be shocked.  Thankfully they were able to get her back into a normal sinus rhythm.  She had a cath lab procedure done the next day.  They checked her heart, which involved putting dye into an artery.  The heart Doctor wasn’t sure it was a good idea, since it would cause issues with her adrenal insufficiency.  But they decided to go ahead with the procedure.  Well, it affected her kidneys, and the pain meds she was getting after the procedure caused her to overdose.  She was treated with Narcan and fluids, but it still had its affects on her kidneys.  Fast forwarding to now...yesterday we had mom transported to Madonna in Omaha, Ne.  We are hoping they can work their miracles and get mom on the road to recovery as much as her body will let her.  As you know, medical costs are very expensive.  We are doing as much as we can to keep her anxiety at a minimum.  Being away from her family and support group is already taking its toll.  When she is released from Madonna, we have to have a new place for her to live.  That is within ADA specifications.  Her current home would take to much to fix, to make it handicap accessible.  Before her move to Madonna she was refused by all Long Term Care facilities in the area, due to the extent of her care.  She will have to have a special air loss mattress to prevent and help heal her current wounds.  We may also be looking for a wheelchair accessible van, to give her some quality of life and not looking at the same four boring walls.  Any little bit will help.   Even encouraging words to give her the strength to keep moving forward would be Greatly Appreciated!
