St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church

St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Ancaster, Ontario is asking for your assistance to help fund renovations that will address serious accessibility issues.  Due to the age of the facility and past renovations, the church has  many levels, resulting in many stairways, outside and inside of the church.  This makes it very difficult for seniors and those with disabilities.

A key part of Ancaster's history, the church was founded in 1826 by Rev. George Sheed, who came to Ancaster from Scotland and built what is now the historic Hermitage property.  The first wood-framed structure was completed in 1832, while the current stone building was completed in 1875. Many changes have occured to the facility over the years, including the addition of a gymnasium, office and kitchen in the early 1960s. The stain glass windows on the west side of the church were installed in 1920, and the wainscoting and floors are original.

St. Andrew's cemetery has historic signifance, i.e. it is the final resting place for an officer from the War of 1812, runaway slaves, and veterans from WWI and WWII.

In addition to weekly and many special services throughout the year, the church is an important gathering place for members of the Ancaster community, e.g. Vacation Bible School, Brownies, seniors lunches, musical performances, weddings, funderals, etc.

The project requiring your assistance and generousity is a renovation project, to add an elevator to the multi-level facility. The renovations are set to begin in the fall of 2016.  The following picture and diagram show the existing and new exterior of the building respectively.

The congregation has provided a large portion of the funds for the project, and to complete the project are pursuing other sources of funding, including this GoFundMe page to directly seek the assistance from the citizens and organizations from the town of Ancaster and surrounding areas.

Our target for this GoFundMe campaign is $10,000. This money will be specifically used to rebuild the front steps. These steps are poorly designed and over time have settled to one side. This work is part of our overall project.

Your donation would be greatly appreciated, and would enable St. Andrews Presbyterian Church to become fully accessible.

If you would like further information about the church, please visit our website.

Our sincerest thanks,

St. Andrews Presbyterian Church
