Greensburg Art Center Growth Pains

If art, in anyway, touches your heart, then we are the 501(c)(3) for you! The Greensburg Art Center is a certified, all-volunteer organization in which all of our earnings go back into our operation and all of YOUR donation is tax-deductible. We have become an integral part of our community with our membership growing, classes expanding, and activities and events promoting the arts. With our growth, however, comes growing pains.
Our art center is housed in a converted historic, two-room schoolhouse built in 1887. A generous endowment from one of our early members, William B. Rowe, enabled us to build an addition housing the Rowe Gallery on the main level and a 3-dimensional studio on the lower level. There is an on-going need for general maintenance of this studio, in addition to updating and repair of the building and grounds.
Our class expansions have required us to invest in the necessary equipment and technologies to provide our students with an engaging, creative learning experience. This presents another challenge to our budget.
Our art center programs have evolved to include elderly and special needs populations. We have added handicapped-accessible parking, ramps and entrances. We now offer classes to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and to residential senior citizens.
With the changes made to our facilities and grounds, there is a need to improve the general appearance of our site by adding trees and plantings that serve to also lessen the noise coming from the nearby highway.
Our annual budget is over $75,000 and is entirely supported by membership dues, class fees, art sales, donations and grants. We hope to add some paid staff to enable us to keep the art center open on a more consistent basis. With your assistance, we can work toward meeting the needs associated with our continuing outreach to the surrounding regional areas.
