Thank you for taking time to read my story.
The logic behind naming my campaign
5-5-5 .
*I will be working 5 days a week.
*I am asking for $5 donations. (or any amount :)
*5 degree F = -15 degree C (BBrrr)
This also adds upp to the number of sports in the Winter Olympics=15.
After teaching Health and Physical Education for 33 years in Charleston, SC I retired and moved upstate to Greenville, SC. I also coached High School Track and Volleyball. I have now started substituting with the Greenville County School District.
When I retired, I was able to become involved with the Olympics through volunteering, it is a 2 year process, I thoroughly enjoy everything, from applying to the venue work sites. At times it is stressful, but the opportunity to work at the Olympic games, a peaceful, world wide event is life changing.
You have the chance to be a part of something much larger than yourself, to work with people from around the globe to reach a common goal, the success of the Olympic Games.
I watched my first Olympics in 1976 when my Aunt Esther and Uncle Paul took me to Montreal. It was the year before I entered High School, ever since then I have caught the "Olympic spirit." I played 3 varsity sports through out High School and continued at Otterbein University.
I tried to promote Olympism to students I taught over the years, to paraphrase-balancing life, blending sport, education , and culture.
The money I am asking for will help pay my airfare-$1,400, AirBnB between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and food-$600. I will be volunteering at the Gangueng Ice Arena (short track speed skating and figure skating) and the Olympic Village during the Paralympics. the last 10 years of my career I taught children with special needs and I am really looking forward to this experience.
I hope you enjoy watching the Winter Olympics from Pyeong Chang. I know the USA will be represented well by the teams in the 2018 Winter Games!
