The African Nurses United are a group of registered nurses of African descent who work at United Hospital,Minnesota.We started as a support network and have evolved to giving back to the local community.The group have decided to undertake it's first international volunteer trip to Ghana,West Africa to provide a free healthcare needs based assessment from February 16 through March 1,2018.
Our goal for this trip is to provide health education and empower the rural fishing community of Agbozume,Greater Accra Region. As Africans living in the diaspora, we bring a unique firsthand experience of the disheartening health standards of care which cannot be afforded by the locals due to dire poverty and the cash and carry medical system. This community lacks a medical facility, clean drinking water,and has a high maternal death rate which is saddening.
We have five registered nurses from our team from different African countries with different skills ranging from medical surgical to critical care who have volunteered their time and expertise.
As you can imagine,it is a huge undertaking that requires financial contributions to purchase medications and medical supplies.These include antimalarials,antidiarrheals,dewormers,antihypertensives,first aide supplies, blood sugar kits,blood pressure cuffs,among others.
We are not naive to imagine we can solve all of Africa's problems, but we are obligated to pitch in the little knowledge we have been afforded by the USA.You can be a part of this mission and dream by financially contributing to our go fund me page.We have been involved in many charity drives in our community.
