When I launched the Voice For Change GoFundMe campaign in 2015, I mentioned that one of my biggest challenges was making my voice heard as an anti-porn, sex-positive advocate. I'm pleased to say this has changed!! I've been open and vulnerable with my story; we've seen huge success through involvement with the Pornography and Harms to Children Symposium held on February 9, 2016; and I am priveleged to have been appointed as Chair of Porn Harms Kids . PLEASE learn more about what we are doing and add your name to the movement.
With your support, I am encouraged to speak out about the myriad of porn harms on children and young people, and am energised as I continue to be a voice to counteract negative attitudes influenced by porn.
My goals are still the same: support parents and young people alike to deal with an industry-driven beast that is obsessed with degrading, abusing, objectifying and violating the human body through porn.
This is where I need YOUR help! I'm requesting all my family, friends, allies and those connected with me (or not), to contribute to the next stage of helping change the future for our children. EVERY donation counts, regardless of the amount!
Funds raised will continue to be utilised to achieve some key goals:
1. Travel expenses and covering my time related to presenting at conferences; meeting with industry influencers; advocacy work; attending political meetings; and my involvement with Porn Harms Kids . Unfortunately, this is most often NON-PAID work! Fundamentally important, but requires significant outlay of time & travel. Your support is vital for me to keep this work going.
2. Family assistance: my beautiful family have made willing sacrifices to support this vision and without going into detail, the minimal financial gain from all the input is certainly testing our resolve!
3. Recoup extensive costs associated with:
- Self-publishing Not for Kids! children's book: protecting kids online.
- Continuing to produce quality holistic relationship & sexuality education programs.
- Producing a range of parent resources to inspire conversation with kids and teens.
4. Sponsor RELATIONSHIP IQ programs to Nepal. A youth organisation based in Kathmandu, Arise & Shine, has approached Youth Wellbeing Project and asked for our help. They would like our programs, as well as training for their team, so that the young people who use their service would have the necessary skills to understand healthy sexuality and not turn to pornography for their education. Many of the young people they work with are at risk of sexual exploitation and from very poor areas, having very limited sex education and parents who are unable to support them in this space. At the rate things are going, your assistence is not just creating a ripple effect - it's creating a tsunami of positive change!! Minors SHOULD NOT have access to hardcore porn; and when they do, parents and young people need assistance to reduce the impact. By joining with me, my promise to you is to do everything that I can to influence cultural and political shift in this space.
I implore you not to be silent on this issue, but become great champions by contributing! The time is now! The topic of porn and sexuality is one of the most challenging yet necessary conversations for everyone to have... and with YOUR support I will continue to speak on your behalf for the safety and wellbeing of your children and their children!
