Help Nazeer Come Home
Nazeer is an asylum seeker living in Amman, Jordan. He left Syria about three years ago as a result of the war; a war which destroyed his house, divided his family, and which now requires him to live in limbo, waiting to find a place he can call home.
The Calgary Centre for Global Community is a Canadian charity. During a project in Jordan, we met Nazeer and were struck by his authenticity, kindness and humility. He has become a friend.
As a community organization, we are in the process of sponsoring Nazeer to come to Calgary. We have raised almost all of the $12,600 required to sponsor Nazeer. Your support is needed for the final $3,000.
Living in Jordan has provided Nazeer with a safe place to be, but not a home. He is unable to legally obtain work that is beyond the scope of a very entry level position that pays low wages; he cannot get a drivers' licence; he cannot purchase any assets (car, home, etc.); he can only study if he pays very high international student fees. He is not a citizen, nor is he a resident. The only place he has these rights, is Syria. And he cannot return.
Nazeer is a talented musician (he plays guitar, violin and flute); he is a hard worker and has experience in the restaurant industry; he also has wishes to further his education. If he came to Calgary, we have no doubt that he would get up on his feet and make himself at home in no time.
How It Works
We need $2,800 for our sponsorship of Nazeer to come to Calgary. The remaining $200 of our $3,000 goal will be used for gofundme fees.
If we don't reach our entire goal, we will continue to raise funds until the entire amount is raised.
Should Nazeer's application be denied once submitted, or if we have any funds exceeding the $12,600 required for his sponsorship, the money collected here would remain with the Calgary Centre for Global Community to be used for charitable projects that help newcomers from Syria and refugees arriving in Calgary.
