Hello fans and supporters of Video Wave of Noe Valley!

The contributions we received in 2018 has been a HUGE help this year. Sadly, we are still in need for the upcoming 2019.

We are a small locally owned Mom and Pop video store in the heart of Noe Valley, San Francisco, CA, in business in the neighborhood since 1983! We provide access to over 100 years of movies on DVD, BLU-RAY (regular, 3D and 4KUHD), and VHS for rent or sale, as well as renting Playstation games. We sell movie treats such as popcorn, sodas, candy, gelato and ice cream, and we sell Funko Mystery Mini collectible vinyl figures. Additionally, we now have a curated Graphic Novel collection for loan, an excellent addition and one that is growing weekly.

In 2015 our business re-located to a better storefront on 24th street, due to a more than double rent increase at our old location. We shared the new space with another business, which made it an affordable opportunity. That business, however, closed up shop in October 2016, which is when we initially started this GoFundMe campaign. The initial GoFundMe campaign was a success, and we are doing well and growing the business in a great space!

However, the monthly rent takes up more than half of our monthly income, more in slower months. Things are very tight for us, and this is a make or break year for us.

The 2018 crowdfunding has recently helped to pay for vandalized windows, a new security system, computer upgrades and diagnostics and helped the store through the always slow summer and fall months. However, more is needed to help the store continue its improvements, expand into online sales and social media services, and, unfortunately to continue to pay rent that is too high for a Mom and Pop neighborhood institution.

We are more than half way into the two year extension to the initial one year lease, and we need to implement our expansion into online sales and social media marketing in order to generate enough revenue to think about remaining open for business. We hope to continue to expand the reach of our services, and to remain open for many years to come as well! If all goes well, we hope to once again provide employment opportunities at our shop to the community!

With your help, we believe that we will be fine! Our community and neighbors have supported us for over 30 years, and it is our intention to remain here and continue to provide our well curated selection, expertise and customer service to the entire Bay Area for years to come! We love this business, and this community, and would love nothing more than getting to stay here and have the opportunity match you with whatever you want (or need) to watch!

We know we are asking a lot, as we have asked for (and thankfully received) help before. We couldn't have moved here in 2015 without the help of so many helpful customers, neighbors and members of the community! And we wouldn't be here now without the assistance of the initial GoFundMe campaign in September 2016. We would be very thankful to be able to continue to provide our services for years to come!

Thanks for your consideration and support!

Colin and Gwen

Thanks to all of our contributors! Our vandalized store window can now be replaced thanks to the generous donations received for the Window Fix It Fund! Our insurance covered the replacement, but with a deductible, but your donations took care of that. Awesome, and thanks to all!

Thanks to all who have continued contributing! And the new donors! About a week ago we had a display window of our store broken by some random vandal, and we temporarily had all contributions go towards paying to have the window replaced; now we can happily say that we have already raised the amount for the insurance deductible, and the replacement process is underway! Thanks for that, our wonderful community!

We have passed the $15,000 threshold! Amazing and thank you all! We wish we were done raising funds, but there is more to go. This is a big deal for us, so thanks again!

We have received a couple of donations that are really helping us move forward in our computer/software upgrades, so thank you one and all for your continued support! We are having an interview in our store Thursday July 26th with an SF Chronicle reporter doing a piece on why video stores still matter, so hopefully this press will aid our campaign and get more people knowing about us. Spread the word, and thanks again!

I donated because, I don't want to be forced to do Netflix! (Plus, I love Gwen & Colin.)
