Vicious Needs Us

Donation protected

Today, everyone's favorite baked potato kitty, Vicious, was diagnosed with diabetes.

Vicious is 9 years old, and has always been a tubby guy. (He actually weighs less now than when I adopted him, which is a very good thing.) His tubby-ness has always been a part of his charm. He can win you over with one look through his beautiful green eyes and chubby cheeks. Despite his name, Vicious is a cuddle buddy; a talkative puddle of love who wants nothing more than to knead a blanket while sitting in the lap of anyone who will show him attention.

If you have seen Vicious lately, you've undoubtedly noticed his wobbly gait and increased lethargy. He has neuropathy in his hind legs and his glucose is very high. Our vet tells me that the neuropathy in his legs can't be reversed,  but insulin will improve his condition, and help him to live longer.
Poor Vicious has been having symptoms for some time, but I had not been able to afford the tests to confirm his diagnosis in order to get the proper medication. I made the appointment with the vet today because Vicious seemed to be having even more trouble walking, and was peeing around the house. I was only able to take him in today (financially) as they let me post-date a check without a deposit. (I have a feeling they let me do this because I was extremely emotional - this isn't their standard payment practice.)
The tests alone today were $285. These were for a urine test, poo test, and a full blood panel to make sure none of his other organs have been affected (luckily, they have not been affected yet).

I recently decided to become a home owner, so money is tight for me already. I try to be very responsible with my money, but there's no way I could have budgeted for Vicious being diagnosed with an expensive condition.

I have done everything I can, homeopathically and within my budget, to help Vicious. I've changed his food, I've made adjustments to his stuff in the house to make things more accessible for him, etc.
But the only thing that can potentially reverse the diabetes, and guarantee that his other vital organs won't be affected, is insulin.
Tragically, the insulin he needs costs $275 for a 6 month supply. He will have to go to the vet every 2 weeks after starting the insulin (3-5 visits), to make sure he's regulated appropriately. Those visits will cost $75 a piece.
I don't qualify for Care Credit, and I've put in applications with other organizations for financial assistance, but I won't hear back for a while.
This $1000 that I'm trying to raise will all go towards the testing he had today, insulin, syringes, and future appointments for his condition. I will continue to work on his diet and exercise, and I'm hoping that these efforts, combined with insulin injections for some time, will reverse his condition.
I hate to ask for help, especially financially, but I have to do everything I can possibly think of to help Vicious. He's the sweetest, most handsome man I've ever met, and he deserves to live a much longer life.
Thank you so much for reading this. Please, please consider helping us if you can.
