Still I Rise

Featuring celebrity-activists Jada Pinkett Smith , Janelle Monáe , Gabrielle Union , Tarana Burke , Viola Davis , Alicia Keys ,  and scholars Kimberle Crenshaw , Patrisse Cullors and Angela Davis - Still I Rise connects the anti-trafficking movement and its advancement with the Movement for Black Lives , #MeToo , and #SayHerName- by virtue of their interdependence as human rights struggles in America. 

Follow the extraordinary everyday lives of Leah Albright-Byrd , a survivor turned activist, and Holly Joshi , an undercover cop turned scholar. Leah and Holly's lives intimately show what Professor Kimberle Crenshaw  explains to be how the double penalty of how being black and female increases vulnerability to sexual exploitation and sparks the resiliency to fight for justice for black girls and women in America.


Dear friends, community, and team  -  thank you for visiting Still I Rise. In the last 5+ years our family style creative team has filmed over 100 hours in Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Sacramento.  This summer, our team is humbled to finish this groundbreaking film with the best artists in the Bay: Sound Remix with Sundance Institute Selects Jim LeBrecht  and Color with Gary Coates (Independent Lens / bias  /P.O.V. )This is where you and your friends come in.
Our goal is to RAISE 50K.

Did you know that the majority of children being sexually exploited in the U.S. are African American girls? African Americans constitute 13.2% of the U.S. population, Y E T  57% of A L L  J U V E N I L E  P R O S T I T U T I O N  A R R E S T S  are of African -American children.
