Vet care for Leo
Donation protected
On Saturday, February 3rd, my fiance and I were celebrating the restoration of our power 5 months after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico. Later that night, I was rushing one of our rescue cats to the emergency vet after he had been hit by a car.
Initial examinations and x-rays showed that he only had a small hernia in his abdomen, and we felt the estimate we were given for his surgery was reasonable, so we went ahead with the procedure. After they opened him up, it was discovered that his hernia was much larger than expected and that his diaphragm had also collapsed on one side. We did not find this out until after the surgery was completed and the cost had doubled.
Leo now also needs his back paw amputated. The vet has generously agreed to do this procedure for free, but we are still stuck with all the initial costs plus the cost of any followup visits.
We have five rescue cats and have also spent a lot of money trying to save additional cats. We are also regular supporters of other charities that work with animals in Puerto Rico. We are hoping some of this good karma will come back to us and that we can get some support to save our sweet Leo.
I will be upfront and say that there is no guarantee that Leo will make it through another procedure. Also, we are paying what we can for the bills, since we initally agreed to a certain price. Any money that is extra will be donated to a charity in Luquillo that cares for stray cats.
