Vermont Studio Center Art Residency

The Cause

Hello Friends! I was recently accepted to Vermont Studio Center for a two week (January-February 2017) artist residency! I was awarded an artist grant of $600 and a work exchange offer of $300 to help off-set the cost of the residency. I still have to come up with the remaining cost of $1,150, as well as travel expenses (unfortunately I need new tires because my current set is worn and I am afraid I will not be able to drive through the snow to get to Johnson, VT), day care cost (since I will not be working those weeks), and processing fees for go fund me. Please help a hustling, working mom further her career and pursue her passion in a field that can be so tough, but so fulfilling! This is a huge opportunity for my career as an artist. Donations of all amounts will be forever appreciated and would mean so much to me. I have different reward levels of my artwork available in exchange for your generous donations. Help me reach my goal by January 20th!

What is an Artist Residency?

An artist residency is a place where artists are given an opportunity for time and space away from their usual environment and obligations. This provides a time of reflection, research, and production, as well as allowing an individual to explore his/her practice within another community; meeting new people, using new materials, and experiencing art in a new location.

About Vermont Studio Center

The Vermont Studio Center was founded by artists in 1984. The location -- situated along the banks of the Gihon River in the historic village of Johnson, Vermont--was chosen with the intention of fostering creativity through community, collaboration, and quiet reflection supported by the unspoiled beauty of the northern Green Mountains.

Over the last 30 years, VSC has grown to become the largest international artists' and writers' residency program in the United States. Thier mission is to provide studio residencies in an inclusive, international community, honoring creative work as the communication of spirit through form.

What I will be working on while at VSC

While at VSC I will be working on a new body of work to apply to gradutae schools, grant/fellowships and art exhibitions. I will be applying to several fully funded Universities (these programs are highly competitive)  this year for the Fall 2018 semester in efforts to earn my Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Painting. Earning this degree is very important to my career as an artist and would also mean I am qualified to teach in higher education.
