Help us Stop Dads Suffering

My dad was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer that has spread to the liver and most of his bones. The cancer in the bones is causing pain far beyond what any human should have to endure.
My father was always the tough guy, the one who never got sick, working from dawn to dusk always there when someone needed him. Many in our area know him as the Mopar Man. His talent for restoring old cars from all the body work as well as his painting skills has brought people far and wide asking him for his services. Sadly it was most likely this love of cars that caused his lung cancer, breathing in the fumes and putty dust for so long.

It’s been nearly a month since that day and after several trips to the hospital, test upon test upon test, here we are with the most unfathomable diagnosis of lung cancer. Shockingly, what he believed to be arthritis pain was actually cancer that has been running rampant for some time, missed when hospitalized for pneumonia. Years even. These tests were followed up by even more tests as we struggle to wrap our minds around the fact that this lung cancer has spread to his liver and all through his bones. While we try to come to terms with what this means for him and our family, we again bring him home unsure what the future will bring awaiting the doctor’s plan for treatment. We are left with the unfortunate task of trying to care for a man who is only 64 years old, a man who’s never been sick in his life. Tasks such as drinking, eating and all the things we take for granted have become almost impossible.

We began navigating the repercussions of insurance that don’t kick in yet because he’s too young, doctors who don’t take the insurance he does have, rejections from Cancer Treatment Centers due to insurance disqualifications. We have come to a crossroads, figuring out a plan of action before it becomes too late.  To watch a strong healthy man deteriorate right before your eyes is beyond comprehension. Just in the last two months alone, my father has gone from working on his beloved Super Bee to sitting in a hospital bed. He has withered away before our very eyes.
With treatment, we could lessen the pain considerably and perhaps even hold the cancer at bay to give him more time. Beyond this, we can only pray but we refuse to just sit here doing nothing.

We are asking for any help for my father, the man who has never asked for help a day in his life. Any help to get him the care that he needs, a dependable vehicle to make his appointments as the trips to the hospital increase and the costs of uncovered care mount up . Most importantly, means for care to help alleviate the pain that’s eating away at the fight left in this man.
Any prayers given are welcome!
