Valerie has been diagnosed with a rare carcinoid tumor. One day back in May she was at work and not feeling well, thank God Sergeant Young noticed how out of sorts she looked and he had Deputy Brandt escort her to the emergency room. Her chest X-ray revealed a growth in her lung. After many tests and meetings with doctors the tumor board decided it needs to come out. Her surgery is scheduled for August 10th. As you can imagine this has been quite a shock for Val and her family. They have had their hands full with medical tests and doctor visits. She will be out of work for at least 3 months, we feel the need to start something to help alleviate the financial stress so she can focus on treatment and healing. The money donated will be used to pay for expenses not covered by insurance, her son Nate's high school tuition and to help with daily living expenses. Please keep Valerie in your thoughts and prayers and thank you all for your generous donations.+ Read More
I know it's been a little while since I updated about Valerie so I decided now would be a good time, I went to her first visit to see the surgeon last week he said she was doing well but needed to do more walking so that her lung can expand a bit more. She has taken a little sabbatical from Facebook, I think when she reads crazy posts and types a lot it drains her energy. We went on a little venture to a friends surprise 70th tea party Birthday for a few hours on Saturday, we couldn't believe that it was 100 degrees in Pacifica. She said it was nice to get out besides the profuse sweat. One of Val's good friends at work set up a food donation site on Munchery so that's been nice on days that Dee isn't up for cooking and other people have also brought over yummy meals. She was able to go and get a pedicure and she also got a massage which we all know are two of her favorite things to do. Val is definitely on the mend her pain is still pretty bad but it is definitely getting better each day. I think it's safe to say if you haven't already call her up and give her a little shout to let her know you've been thinking about her and maybe set up a visit. From the bottom of my heart Thank You all for loving my BESTEST and showing all the support that you have through this rough time in her life. The donations, emails, cards, phone calls, presents, meals, everything means so much!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Valerie is HOME from the hospital, she asked that I keep that on the hush for a bit just so she can get acclimated. She is definitely on the mend but still in terrible pain and sleep hasn't been coming easily just a few hours here and there. The doctors have recommended that she stay away from germs as best she can, so unfortunately no giant welcome home celebrations. She does love to read all the wonderful get well comments and texts though, as she starts to feel more and more like herself I'm sure she will respond to all the people that sent her messages if she hasn't answered some already. She told me it's still hard to talk for long periods of time so I myself have had to limit my own contact with Val, cause well if you know me I'm a talker and I really want her to get better soon!!! Her mom Dee has been taking such good cared her, Auntie Jeanne made sure that the house stayed spotless while she was gone and her son Nate definitely had a big part in making sure the house was in tip top shape when she returned. The family is so happy she is home now it's time for the real healing to begin. Love You Val, Get Well Soon...
I guess for some reason or another Go Fund Me would like me to update for all of Valerie's supporters to know that myself (Jessica Miller Butler) is collecting the money that everyone has donated and then transferring it into Valerie's account. For a few days now I've been trying to withdrawal and transfer funds for her but have not been able to because our account is under investigation. As most of you already know I have been Valerie's Best Friend for 30+ years and I promise all of the funds collected are going to Val and her family. Please continue to support Valerie with all the positive words and actions, they are all so greatly appreciated XOXO
Unfortunately Val wasn't able to go home like she was hoping but she is still making excellent progress, "who knew it would be so hard to breath with only part a lung" Hopefully she'll be able to sleep in her own bed soon but this isn't a race and we'd rather be safe than sorry. She finally got some good sleep last night, Yay... Hopefully we will be celebrating her return home soon, until then I'll keep you posted XOXO
