Fall into Literacy Turkey Drive

In November, we will be holding our second annual "Fall into Reading"  Literacy Night.  When I arrived at this   campus last year, I wanted to make a difference not only with the students but also aide the families.   I with the enthusiam of my boss, worked to bridge the gap. Last year we had a grant that helped with the purchase of turkeys and gift cards for families. This year we are not able to apply for the grant as it ran out of funds.

Last year, when Thanksgiving break was over, many familes came up to me and thanked me for having the literacy night. They said their children were excited to share their new books with their family members and the turkeys were  a true blessing. 

I know times are tight and hard for everyone,  a mere 10 dollars will provide a turkey for a family.  Last year we were able to give away over 150 turkeys from donations and grant moneies, we also gave away over 900.00 in gift cards to families. The gift cards were given  to provide groceries for families in addition to a turkey.
