LEGAL DEFENSE FUND

Recently comics have been forced with the burden of having to defend themselves from claims arising from exercising first amendment rights. Statements made to warn the community against potential threats and to support victims should not be silenced due to fear of litigation.  As comics do not have the means to defend themselves against civil suits (however baseless the claims may be) we will come together as a community to offer whatever support we can. 

Right now this fund is being used to help Jasmine Pierce pay legal expenses to defend herself in a case just like this. She was served with a defamation complaint on 12/27/2016 and needs to respond within 20 days and we are trying to raise money to pay for her to consult with a legal expert in this field who can help draft a response to this complaint as required to avoid a default judgement agains Jasmine.

All proceeds will be provided to Jasmine to cover legal costs in defending herself. If another woman in the NY comedy community is served with a defamation claim in this same case we will raise money to help her in the same way.
