We have started this fund to help our very close friend and her family.  This fund will provide support for them and their three year old son.

Last week Eli was a passanger on the Amtrack train that derailed.  He was headed home to his family, after a day of work in Philidelphia.  Eli was on the second car of the train, in the first row.  He was thrown across the train and suffered a severe spinal cord injury.  At this time he is in a rehab facicilty about to embark on a very long road that will continue to facilitate his healing so he can come home soon to his wife and son.

The Kulp family has a very long road ahead of them, that includes so much uncertainty, and continuing medical costs that will forever follow them.  Please consider donating to this deserving family.  They are very grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have recieved thus far.  We hope that this will provide them with a little bit of relief so they can concentrate on the healing process of lives forever changed.

Dear Friends and family,

This week will mark a big step in Eli's recovery. After 4 months of inpatient treatment, Eli is moving to an outpatient program. He will continue Spinal Cord Injury rehab through Shepherd Center's day program. He will be living in nearby wheelchair accessible housing, which will hopefully make the reintegration back to life outside of the hospital a little easier. Eli requires 24 hour care so his mother will remain with him and we will hire caregivers to help him with his needs. We are anxious for Eli to come back home and he can't wait to be back with us. This will be a big forward step in that direction. The money that has been raised is now being put towards the cost of the day program as well as the caregivers Eli will be reliant on. We are so grateful to have had this huge outpouring of much needed financial support. Many thanks to everyone helping us during this unthinkably difficult time.

I would like to thank everyone again for how much money we have raised so far for the Kulp family. Eli continues a slow recovery process in a rehab facility for a spinal cord injury. He will continue to stay there until at least August. He is fighting hard for recovery, but it continues to be a long and slow process. The list of medical expenses continue to mount. Some of the out of pocket expenses that the Kulp family will be faced with are:
-Home modifications
-Home health aids
-Adjustable bed for pressure relief and air mattress to reduce the risk of pressure sores
-Van/transportation to and from outpatient therapy
-Adaptive technology
-Medical copays and deductibles
This list includes just a few examples of what will be needed for Eli to come home and continue to recover. At this point Amtrak has discontinued paying for any medical coverage for Eli. This family continues to fight for recovery and is so appreciative of all the help they have received thus far. As a friend of the family I can say this has truly changed them. I have never known stronger people who continue to fight each and every day. They continue to get their strength from the generosity of so many friends, family, and strangers. I ask that you please share this so we can continue to raise money for this family. I thank you so very much.

When Jessica and I started this gofund me account we had no idea that we would go beyond the goal that we came up with, and still can not believe the generosity of so many people. Thank you so much. This continues to be a very challenging time for the Kulp family. In the comments section of this page there is a message from Marisa Kulp, Eli's wife. Please continue to keep this special family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you again,
Kelly and Jessica

Words can't begin to express the amount of gratitude my family has for the generous outpouring of support. Family, friends, acquaintances and even strangers have graced my family with their generosity and with this I have a new found faith in humanity. The sad reality is that on the night of May 12th life has changed forever for my family. We are lucky to have Eli alive and I am heartbroken for the families that lost their loved ones on that night. Eli has a very long road to physical recovery. His prognosis is unknown simply because there is no guaranteed outcome with a spinal cord injury. It will take months and years of rehabilitation. We will forever be navigating towards a new normal because our future can't be predicted. Eli's intellect, humor, and passion for his career and his life all remain unchanged. We are very confident that because of this he will continue to fight this fight of his life to make the best possible recovery he can. We ask for continued support, prayers, healing energy... Whatever you got, because we truly need it. I look optimistically to a day in the future when we can pay it forward. Xo Marisa

I badly broke 4 vertebrae in my neck and fractured 8 in my upper back after a bad fall. It's taken almost 3 years to recover, but I've been fortunate and am blessed to have virtually all my capabilities back. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. With God's help, may Eli make a full recovery. Do all that your PT and OT ask!...Ed & Sue
