UWC x Refugees in Serbia

Students of UWC Mostar are deeply concerned about the current situation of thousands of refugees in Serbia, suffering from critical sanitation and sheltering conditions.
UWC Mostar (UWCiM) is part of the United World College movement, an organization that makes education a force to unite people, cultures and nations for a peaceful and sustainable future. We are a community of more than 200 students, aged from 16-18, coming from 61 different countries, with different ethnicities, religions and cultural backgrounds.
We do not believe in closed borders and fear but in bridges and celebration of diversity. We believe in the solidarity and agency of communities when institutions neglect people from their basic needs. Everyday we learn to embrace and practice these values to bring a positive change in our community.
UWC Mostar has decided to take action in the refugee crisis Serbia. For more than a year, we have been sending groups of volunteers to contribute to the work of several NGOs supporting refugees and asylum seekers whilst in Serbia – whether at the borders or in Belgrade.
From cooking meals, cleaning barracks, distributing clothes and sanitation items, to building showers, organising workshops and classes, our students are involved in any kind of humanitarian aid directed to refugees and asylum seekers with dedication and passion. We are aiming to contribute to the cause also by raising money for the purchase of clothing, warm meals, hygiene items and other essential goods to the refugees.
Our next action will start at the beginning of this April. For 10 days, students from UWC Mostar will work in the educational centre for migrants run by Refugee Aid Serbia to hold daily workshops and classes to the refugees.
We will continue sending donations and volunteers to Belgrade to ensure the continuity and the effectiveness of the project, so don't stop supporting!
Any contribution is welcome and will make a remarkable difference in the change of refugees' life.
