My Little Sister's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Febuary 27th, 2016. My sister is rushed to the ER with severe stomach pains. She's in the worst pain imaginable. The doctors push her into surgery to correct a small bowel intussusception. Comments are made that she's the youngest person the surgeon has seen with this situation, without some underlying cause.

Well, guess what they find during surgery: an underlying cause. She's got Burkitt's Cell Lymphoma, which she doesn't find out until after her surgery when she's going in for a post-op checkup.

Burkitt's Cell Lymphoma is widely recognized as the fastest growing human tumor. It is associated with compromised immunity and is rapidly fatal if left untreated. Intensive chemotherapy can save more than half the people diagnosed. Burkitt's is very rare in the US, and rarer still for people under 40.

Shortly after being diagnosed and laying out a treatment plan, my sister was fired from her job and lost her insurance through them. She was, without a doubt, fired for having cancer. She's currently fighting to get state medicaid and/or disability, but those are uphill battles (especially disability for someone under 30).

She is left to foot the bill for her surgery, extensive testing, chemo treatments, medication, future doctor visits, and stays in the hospital during her chemo weeks. Not to mention still taking care of my beautiful nephew, Mikey .

Our family and friends are helping where they can, but we come from meager beginnings. I want her to not have to worry about how she's going to feed and clothe Mikey, or if she's going to be buried under medical bills for the rest of her life. I want her to have the least amount of stress possible right now; she doesn't need any of that negative energy during this time.

Every little bit counts and is cherished greatly. Honestly, if we even raise 50% of this, it will be amazing and a huge weight off of her shoulders.

Thank you, from my sister, my family, and me, for your time. Even if you can't donate, please pass this along! More eyes means more help!

(Also, here is an album of proof, just to clear the air! )
