At 4:30 this morning I woke up and let both my dogs outside my apartment to go potty, I went back inside to grab my phone from my room and told my daughter to get up and get ready and headed back toward the front to go out there with them and as I was walking down my hallway, I hear a gunshot. I ran outside screaming to find a random "patrol officer" walking away from my apartment going toward the back of my building, and I started screaming at him asking him what happened and where is my dog and he just kept walking, I screamed over and over as I followed him toward his car and he turns around finally and says "Your dog is dead." I screamed "You shot him!?" and he said "He growled at me." And I repeated "So you SHOT him???" I started lookinhg around and screaming for him.. I couldn't find him. My dog took off after the guy shot him and after 3 hours of looking, we found him two blocks away near the orange groves, covered in blood, surrounded by Redlands PD. He was shot directly through his nose down through his mouth and the bullet exited his neck. I rushed him to the vet and so far the initial cost is nearing $2000. Hes getting surgery done and may need dental work, if he recovers. I had to call off work at my new job at Aldi. I don't know the gun laws for security officers on private property, but so far RPD has basically told me it was my fault for not leashing him. I was fined $200 for not leashing him or having him licensed. Redlands Daily Facts reported it and said the security officer was "attacked" by my dog...which clearly he was not. My dog was never even near him and I don't see how all of that could've happened in the time it took for me to walk to my bedroom and get back to my hallway when I heard the gunshot. The man is a coward who wouldnt even turn around to explain what happened. He told the police my dog is a pit bull (he's a red heeler cattledog mix) and now they won't help me. This has become a huge ugly ordeal that I couldve never imagined happening and I'm not sure how I'm going to get my boy back home. Any help is appreciated. Literally ANYTHING. I love this dog, everyone loves this guy and he doesn't deserve any of this.
