Well Kathryn and her support team have arrived safely in LA.
Kathryn will have an ultrasound tomorrow morning (Wednesday our time) and then see Dr Raz the next day (Thursday our time). Her surgery is scheduled for Thursday 13th (Friday 14th our time).

Over the last decade women all around Australia have been crying out for help and desperately seeking answers. Most have been ignored, misdiagnosed or simply told “it’s all in your head” with doctors closing ranks tightly on the subject.
One such woman is my beautiful sister, Kathryn Best. For almost three (3) years she has endured debilitating pain caused from multiple mesh implants. In six (6) weeks Kathryn and a carer are booked to fly to America, to undergo very risky surgery to remove these mesh implants. So risky is this operation, currently there no doctors in Australia experienced enough to operate. She will be seeing Urologist and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr Shlomo Raz who is considered to be the most experienced mesh removal doctor in the world. Women travel from all over the world to see him and after two (2) long years, she has finally been accepted.
BUT, there is just one last hurdle to overcome and this is where we are pleading for your help. The words below have been written by her daughter ….
“I have been watching helplessly as my mother is crippled by pain. For weeks/months/years on end she has been in and out of doctors surgeries and hospitals, every time misdiagnosed and given countless scripts as long as my arm for pain killers. I’ve watched my mother be weakened and torn apart, days where all I could do was to hold her up off the ground and support her while she had no control over her body, something no one should have to watch a loved one go through, let alone your mother. Weeks turned into months where she couldn't even get out of bed, while the pain relief was only temporary, the side effects of these drugs started to take control, loss of sight, memory loss, vomiting, headaches, just to name a few of the more pleasant ones.
Finally after 2 years fighting for an appointment with a surgeon in America, she has an appointment. There are no doctors in Australia who can perform this surgery, with the risks extremely high she will need to be flown over to America with a carer to help her, while we, her children, stay back here in Australia. The surgery comes at a huge cost, at the age of 68, being unable to work for over 2 years, Mum has just managed to re-mortgage our home to fund the operation. But this week another devastating blow, news that the cost of the operation has now almost doubled! Apparently this is due to “an administrative error” however that does not help her. This now puts the cost of the operation out of her reach as she cannot borrow any more money. Please help us get our Mum to America for this lifesaving operation she so desperately needs and deserves.
It doesn’t matter how little or much you can give, it will all help, we need to get her there.”
