Equipment for Magnet HS Film Dept

$5,000 goal

Campaign created 10 months ago
The mission of the Film Dept at LAUSD / USC Media Arts & Engineering Magnet School is to train a new generation of teenage filmmakers (6th - 12th grade) from low socioeconomic neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area so that these students can gain an intensive hands-on, problem-solving education that focuses on video production, animation, advertising, audio design, music technology, and digital media, which will ultimately lead to them getting jobs in the film industry.

Four years ago when we transitioned to have a focus in Media Arts, we had eight point-and-shoot cameras and one film class.  Now we have nearly 12 classes, including Filmmaking 1, 2, & 3, Animation, Documentary Filmmaking, Broadcast Journalism, Music Design & Technology, Screenwriting, Advertising Design, Media Studies, Acting, and Game Design.    We are looking to expand our equipment and resources so that we have professional-grade gear that will allow our students to continue to make amazing video and media projects.  Last year, one of our film teachers was named National Magnet Teacher of the Year.

An important part of our program is to take our students to actual studios and production companies.  We are currently trying to find funds for next year's trips, tentatively planned for DreamWorks Animation Studios, The Museum of Film & Television, and Univision Studios.

Video production equipment and field trips can be very expensive so we're looking for your generosity to help.  Items we are looking to fund:

--One Panasonic HC-X1000 4K camera package
--Three  LCD light kits
--One camera monitors
--Six professional microphones
--Field trips to studios and museums.

We are hoping to raise this money by August 2017 for the 2017-2018 school year.
