USA Team Rescue & Recovery

When Hurricane Michael struck the Florida panhandle and made its track through parts of the southeastern United States, it left a wake of devastation in its path. This storm was a beast of epic proportions and its intensity grew so quickly that there was little time to prepare or evacuate. Being in Virginia, I felt a need to help in some sort of way. I volunteered with Cajun Navy Foundation and I was immediately put to work on the resources team, something I could do with a computer and the Zello app on my phone. The Cajun Navy Hurricane Michael channel on Zello was filled with requests for volunteers and cries for help.

Billie and Mike Dase of Brewton, Alabama immediately went into action, answering a call to help. Volunteering as boots on the ground for Cajun Navy Foundation, they were dispatched to Wewahitchka, Florida. Their crew,“USA Team,” traveled 3-4 hours to a community that no one had been able to access. Downed trees and power lines made access difficult but they knew they had to reach the residents of this community. USA Team realized immediately that they were the hope these families were praying for and this would not be a one day mission.

For over two weeks USA Team, now known as USA Team Wewahitchka has been rescuing residents trapped within their homes, supplying food, water and other necessities to the residents who still have no power, no water and no communications available. They’ve coordinated heavy equipment, helicopter airdrops and brought in chainsaws and they work tirelessly 12-17 hours everyday before returning to their Alabama home hours away. They do this on their own time, using their own money, and they do it EVERYDAY. They will continue to do so because they won’t leave anyone behind and the words “can’t be done” is not a phrase they’ll accept.

The support  they are giving has now stretched further. Not only are they helping Wewahitchka, but their relief efforts have spread to Dalkeith and Stone Mill Creek.

USA Team needs your support to continue the rescue, relief and recovery efforts to these small towns who are not yet receiving assistance from federal disaster relief programs. All money donated will go directly to USA Team to help them help others. This is not a Cajun Navy Foundation fundraiser. This is a group of kind-hearted individuals coming together as a team to take care of those in need, and they need your support.
