Hello everyone! We are living in a crucial time in the United States, where morals and values have been slowly dissolving by the over saturation of divisive propaganda. It’s time that we as a nation put aside our differences and work together to make the United States of America a country for the citizens again. To do this we must change the way we think. This can only be done by replacing the old tired lobbyist riddled congressmen and women and bring in a new youthful generation of progressive ideals. #TheMillennialMovement
I have officially placed my name on the ballot for the United States House of Representatives in the state of Missouri (Democratic Party) to bring common since and innovative thinking to Washington D.C. The United States is number 1 in too few of variables that can design and entrench a sustainable innovative society. The citizens that comprise this great nation are being place on the back burner of priority. This country is number one in military spending (54% of budget at $598.5 billion in 2015), incarcerated people (724 people per 100,000), and weapons exports. This is one of the reasons why the United States leads the world in gun related violence. This is not a recipe for greatness. This country needs to reevaluate its priorities in government spending. I believe education, health care, renewable energy, green technology, infrastructure, housing development, and environmental protection should be subjects that the United States lead the world in. We can only advance this country if we are spending sufficient money on innovative departments that push humanity forward. The United States is ranked 20th in educational attainment, 17th in reading and 21st in math among the wealthiest nations. The United States is also poorly compensating the educators of this nation. A study conducted by the Commonwealth Fund on health care (including infant mortality, healthy life expectancy, and mortality from preventable conditions) in 11 advanced industrial countries, concluded that the United States ranked last among them. According to the World Health Organization, the U.S. health care system ranks 37th in the world. Environmental health ranks 36th in water and sanitation, and 38th in air quality compared to nations around the world. A 2013 report by the United Nations Children’s Fund noted that, of the 35 economically advanced countries that had been studied, only Romania had a higher percentage of children living in poverty than did the United States. The Criminal Justice System is the number one threat to the prosperity of the United States. The Criminal Justice System (CJS) is not a system to seek true justice. The name itself is spearheaded by the world “criminal”. The constitution was made to protect the rights of citizens until “PROVEN” guilty. A better name for this should be the Citizen Justice System. The CJS is too often influenced by how much money a person has, and not the alleged crimes they have been accused of. The less money a person has equates to a higher rate of a conviction and/or jail time even if the person did not do the crime. The bails bold system needs to be changed to reflect the individual risk to society an accused citizen may have once released from jail, rather than requiring thousands of dollars to have the chance to be bonded out until their court date. This bankrupts the average citizen, leading to forced pleas of guilty even if they had a defensible case. This one change can have a huge impact on the rate of incarceration, and the rate at which innocent citizens lives are ruined. These ruined lives put a burden on the economic progress of the nation due to government assistant programs needed after convictions. This creates a rarely escapable prison cycle due to the lack of opportunities available from record defamation. The citizens need a league of justice, or a “Justice League” that is solely committed to protecting the citizens and policing the police. There are few if any ways to file a complaint against a police officer, and too may police officers are not being held accountable for their action due to a lack of citizen supervision. After all, the citizens contribute to police officer salaries. The Citizen’s Justice league can keep surveillance on officers and ensure proper etiquette is practiced during encounters with citizens. Also, this can help bridge a level of community communication between police and the citizens. I also believe the prohibition on marijuana is a waste of government spending and resources. The government is spending around 20 billion dollars to combat a poorly researched plant due to its schedule 1 drug rank. I propose a temporary federal suspension (5 years) of the prohibition on marijuana, and the reclassification of its schedule to 3 to properly study the components and effects of the plant. This will help determine the legitimacy of the costly spending to combat a naturally growing crop and reduce the incarceration rate. I have plenty of more progressive ideas, but I will leave those for later debates. This Primary Election, vote for me, Joshua Shipp for U.S. House of Representatives (Democratic Party). Thank you
