urban university is a nonprofit working in Oakland to improve the socioeconomic status of impoverished individuals by providing employability training, coaching, and employment opportunities. Over the past 19 years, uu has delivered this mission through training services and the Single Mothers at Work program.
Over the past seven years, uu's Founder and Executive Director, Tracey Weaver, has also taken on the roles of social enterprises manager and case manager to single parents in uu's program. We recognize that during the next twelve months we need to refocus our energy in order to grow uu's mission.
February 25th is uu's 19th birthday, and to mark this milestone, we are making a dramatic pivot to help us sustain our mission and fundraise for growth. We are downsizing our two social enterprises in the Grand Lake retail district, and focusing our efforts on developing the infrastructure required to deliver uu's mission as a socioeconomic empowerment ecosystem.
Your donations will support intensive program development, forming collaborations with local businesses and other nonprofit organizations, and fundraising in the Oakland and surrounding communities. With the infrastructure in place to grow uu's mission, we envision a robust program of training, job creation, retail partnerships, housing services, child care, and social enterprise.
We invite you to take part in uu's transition and growth. Consider donating $19 in honor of uu's 19th birthday, to help us get to our goal of raising $19,000 over the next year.
