Help for the Jones family

Our family has been skating by for a long time. Now that Dave has been diagnosed with cancer, it’s time for us to accept that we need help. Taking some of the financial stress off of him is not only important for his healing but will be imperative for our family in the coming months.

About us:
We are a family of 5. Dave, my husband, was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer in late June. I’m Cassie, Dave’s wife, and I am disabled by my own chronic health issues. We have three kids, all with varying ranges of their own unique needs. Freyja is 9, Henry is 8, and Leopold is 6. The boys are both nonverbal autistic and require full assistance with daily activities, from diapering to feeding. I have a service dog, Nimbus, who is also part of our family. Dave is our rock and this diagnosis has devastated us in every way. 

We need help with:

-a wheelchair van
Henry can’t walk and Dave won’t be able to lift him either temporarily or permanently. I already can’t for long periods. We need to be able to safely get him to and from appointments, school, therapy, etc. We currently have our family of 5 plus service dog crammed into Dave’s Hyundai Accent, which was meant to be a commuter car for when he was working in the city. We keep trying to catch a break so we can get a proper vehicle for our needs, but between being laid off, medical leaves, etc... it’s been hard.

-bills and living expenses
Dave will most likely require some unpaid time off of work through chemo, radiation, surgeries, appointments, etc. We already have a ton of medical bills we can’t pay, which is affecting our credit. We were also partially through a cross country move before his diagnosis, which had already set us back some. 

-home health and childcare
With me being disabled and Dave being the primary caretaker for me and the kids, we will need to hire help to get us through the coming months. The kids need round the clock care and I currently need help with basic daily things like showering. Dave will be having long hospital stays and many days where he is sick and unable to do what he usually does for our family. 

Basically, our family is in a crisis. Every step forward is two steps back, as we try toget ahead and manage what’s been thrown at us. Friends and family have offered to start fundraisers for us in the past, but we were convinced we could do this ourselves. With Dave’s cancer diagnosis, everything has changed. We need help. I don’t have many options right now, but this is onething I can do to help take some of this pressure off of Dave during this time.
