OUR CLUB

The Wynyard Bmx Park is a Bmx track and a community recreation center located on the Northwest Coast of Tasmania. That is in need of an urgent safety upgrades. Although we need a great deal of money to achieve this we have broken it into stages to make it financially achievable and would appreciate your help.

We are a strong family orientated club, encouraging everyone of every ability to come a enjoy Bmx . Bmx is very unique sport  with many  parents racing along side their children. We also have a grandmother competing on the same day as her grandchildren. With a fantastic volunteer base that have worked tirelessly to take the area from an overgrown parcel of land to the great track and recreational space it is today. Providing everybody in the region a safe place to enjoy recreational cycling or on a Sunday enjoy the exciting sport of Bmx.

We raise or funds through our trivia nights, our fantastic sponsors and most importantly the great volunteers that tirelessly run the canteen. But with the cost of maintaining the track and  keeping it safe for public use taking most of our budget, it leaves us with minimal funds left for infrastructure and safety upgrades. 

WHY WE NEED FUNDING

A Bmx start gate is a long horizontal metal barrier that is used to hold the riders in position at the start of the race. A Pneumatic ram forces the gate to the ground at an extreme speed starting the race. The Guillotine style start gate we currently use poses a real safety issue , if a rider was to false start or the gate malfunction causing  the rider to fall over the top of it there is a risk of serious injury, With this style of gate there is  no guard to eliminate the pinch or shear point when the gate drops into its recess, Hence the name guillotine . What we are asking as a club is to help us purchase the new barrel style start gate that eliminates the risk completely.

HOW WE ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL

We have applied for grants to assist with the cost of the upgrades and are waiting on an outcome from them. We have run many fundraisers and have gained lots of great  sponsors helping us to work towards achieving the funds necessary to purchase and install the new barrel gate. 

NEED FOR YOUR SUPPORT 

As a father of two young Bmx riders, I couldn't  think of anything worse than watching your child or any rider for that matter be injured by this old technology. When there is simple solution to the problem. By installing a barrel gate we will be  eliminating the risk completely. We as a Club and a community ask if you would consider this a worthy cause and support us with a donation of your choice or just share with your friends to help create a safe outcome for our club and the community.
