This year the UNSRC Spartan Team has partnered with Kessler Foundation a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to improving quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
Of the 56 million Americans who live with disabilities, only 20 percent of those who are of working age are employed. Kessler Foundation’s mission is to change this statistic. With the support of generous donors and friends like you, Kessler Foundation advances innovative rehabilitation research and funds employment opportunities that return people with disabilities to their homes, their communities, and the workplace. People with spinal cord injury rise from their wheelchairs and take their first steps while wearing robotic exoskeletons. Stroke survivors regain independence. People with brain injury reclaim their lives. People with multiple sclerosis learn to manage the fatigue and memory problems that can come with their disease. And others with disabilities – including veterans – find employment, dignity, and self-reliance.
The UNSCR Spartan Team was founded on the principles of teamwork, perseverance, and collaboration. The team has completed two Spartan Races at Citi Field in NYC, with most participants having never participated in such an event. No one is left behind and everyone finishes, no matter the age, physique, or level of training.
The team works together to train for the event and fundraises to cover race fees. Most importantly, the team contributes any extra proceeds from its fundraising efforts to a community organization. Last year, we donated $2,900 to Bigger Than the Bully, an organization raising awareness of bullying and suicide among youth. This year our mission is Kessler Foundation. We hope to make a difference with your generous donations. On May 13th at Citi field we will present a check to Kessler Foundation for all the great work they do from us and all our contributors.
Any donations on or after May 12th will help the UN Team with registration fees to their next race June 10th
