Friends and family-we have been very private about what we have walked through for the last year but we are now at a point that we must share in order to make a way for J and K to come home. We have along with many other families been the victims of adoption fraud and deceit. Each family's story is a bit different but all terrible. We were matched with our children 3 years ago through Giving Hope Rescue Mission (GHRM) and Voice of the Orphan (VOTO) and in Haiti they are now legally our children.
However we have had to move them (October 2013) to a new orphanage/creche and review every document. Several documents I was able to repair or create when I traveled back to Haiti in November. I am now unable to travel due to having Dengue fever in November and December and now being pregnant. We were told 1 year ago that our adoption was complete and paid in full and a vast majority was all lies. Our final stages payment to VOTO of 7,000.00 was lost completely.
We have at this point lost at least 15,000 or more. We have to hire a Haitian attorney to create valid documents in order to apply for our children's passports and US visas. We hate asking for help and have asked for little up to this point but there is an increasing urgency to get these papers fixed and our children home. Too much time has passed. At this stage we must raise 1,200.00 as soon as possible for the creation of legitimate birth certificates and their legalization. We will have our first fundraiser May 31, 2014 in the form of a garage sale. If you would like to help directly by making a donation or helping with the sale or have other fundraising ideas please let us know.
We will need an approximate total of $15,000 which will cover: attorney fees, transportation within Haiti of original documents, passport application and service fees, medical evaluations for both children, plane tickets, homestudy update. We covet your prayers for miracles. We will not stop fighting for J and K and continue to believe with confidence that adoption was and is God's will for our family. Our God is big and can use what others intended for evil for good.
If an amount over $15,000 is raised or the full amount raised is not used, the remaining funds will be donated to other families that have been the victims of this terrible situation.
