Unicorn Music - Vintage Guitars

When I was a child my father would often put some vinyl on the Hi-Fi, usually Motown, Rock n Roll or Surf music. Then he would get out his saxophone and play along, improvising in between the cracks. This was my first introduction to music. It wasn't long before I had my own sax and started playing in the school band at 7 years-old. Later, in high school and in college I played saxophone in jazz bands and started playing other instruments like flute, guitar and contrabass. My grandfather was a construction operator. But every Saturday night he and his buddy would go down to the local radio station and play a live show of country and western music. This inspired me to be a songwriter and performer.

I have always had the dream of opening a music store. A music store, for me, is a magical space where musicians come together and therefore, new music is born. It is not just a place where musical instruments are bought and sold.  People hang around music stores, meet other musicians and join in jam sessions. All of these keep the music, our dreams and passions alive. It has been so long though, since I had that feeling. I am determined now, that I throw myself to spark that atmosphere once again, here in  Freiburg, Germany where I have been living since 1999. 

I would like to specialize in vintage guitars in my store. These instruments are special not only because they are old, but because they carry with them the songs and souls of everyone who has ever played them. 

I want to call my store "Unicorn Music." Vintage Guitars are much sought after and hard to find ... just like unicorns. And I know well enough that one cannot run a good business with only dreams and passion. I do have actual experiences and networks. I have started and played in several local bands since moving here 20-some-years ago. I am still active in the local jamming scene and frequent all of the clubs and bars with live music in town. I have been working  in a music store here to learn about the market and have come to know the local music scene better. 

To make my dreams and plans real, I need some start-up money to get the business rolling for things such as remodeling costs, building a webpage, initial advertising campaign and the security deposit for the store. In exchange I will make a music store where local musicians can buy instruments and supplies for affordable prices. Musicians can also sell their used instruments either directly or on consignment. Thus, Unicorn Music will be a central exchange point for instruments, ideas and songs. Regular jam sessions are planned for this purpose.

The store will be located in the picturesque and vibrant university town of Freiburg, Germany in the Black Forest. There are only a few music shops in town remaining. This music store will bring needed life to the music scene.

Your donation will be used for:
- Remodeling the store
- Hiring a developer to make a Webpage and Internet Shop
- Initial advertising campaign

Which stage I am currently at:
- Collecting vintage instruments for the store
- Preparing the business plan and documents for upcoming meeting with the bank
- Location has been found and rented
- Logo has been designed for adverts
