On the day Jennifer was released from jail for the last time, staff dropped her off at a Metro stop in suburban Northern Virginia. She didn’t have a Metro pass. She didn’t have money for a cab. She had nowhere to stay. She was rejected and forgotten by her family as a result of her mistakes. Freedom for the Forgotten serves prodigals like Jennifer, those with the not-so-perfect stories who still hope for a happy ending. Many want a fresh start and freedom from addictions, criminal behavior and despair.
Our organization is working with local jails; teaching interviewing skills, assisting with resumes, teaching parenting skills and providing resources to individuals who are due to be released. Your donations will provide ex offenders with some essentials upon their re-entry into society (toiletries, bus passes, food, gift cards, gloves, blankets, hats, and bibles). We will be serving as mentors and partnering with local organizations to reduce recidivism! Some will need transportation to/from interviews, clothes, housing and food. Many need counseling and help with addictive behaviors. We are raising money for a one-stop facility in Chesapeake, Virginia for support group meetings, clothing donations, food, and employment services.
Will you help us empower women like Jennifer? Many will be haunted by their past forever. Your donations will be used to give them dignity, provide second chances, and give them FREEDOM to live productive lives.
