UNCLE PROJECT call for help...

In Australian towns and cities, as in numerous modern societies today, broken families are common, and as a result, many boys grow up un- or under-fathered. One parent families (almost always mothers) make up a quarter of all families on the Far North Coast NSW. This is nearly 10% higher than the NSW state average of 15% (source ABS 2001 Census and Byron Shire Social Plan 2004).

Boys in these families are at a great risk of problematic behaviours. Evidence shows that boys who have inadequate fathering are:

63% more at risk of suicide
85% more likely to have behavioural problems
71% more likely to drop out of school
70% more likely to end up in a juvenile state institution

They are more likely to join gangs, engage in illicit drug use and  display antisocial behaviour, irrespective of their socio-economic, religious, cultural or geographic area.

The Uncle Project strives to address some of these social problems before they impact on society. Specifically, Uncle provides male mentors for boys without active fathers.   And more recently,  The Uncle Project has opened up to include loving fathers with or without their son/s. Beautiful men are the tribe members we seek.

Beautiful men include fathers, non-fathers and any mature male with a genuine kind heart. We are richer for, and rely upon, the involvement of these men, who come from a broad cross-section of our community.  We can be seen as many individuals each with something unique to offer. Operating as one collective (a male tribe of equals), a lot of knowledge, skills and wisdom is on offer. The interaction a man can have on a boy may be interactive or observed. Given communication is 80% body language and 20% verbal, our positive modelling and interaction between boy and man can be observed and learnt by anyone present. Whether it be father and son or Uncle and boy, positive relationships, effective communication and a strong sense of being is what we foster within this project.

The Uncle Project also offers good men the opportunity to socialise with other good men. And for boys to experience/ discuss/ learn what integrity, respect and collective values are, while obtaining valuable life skills. Their is an unexplainable magic that unfolds when we gather as a male tribe, which is generally felt by those involved. It is primitive, yet grounding, reassuring, yet simple and its seen to be needed more and more in todays contemporary world.

By running regular activities, we create a comfortable platform for boys and men to come together as one.  And it is with YOUR financial support that we aim to continue doing so. With a one tribe mentality, we see equality, respect and team work continually playing out  in each activity. Offering this community of boys a solid foundations for growing UP.

The Uncle Project (UP) activity schedule is structured around three base elements, physical challenges, creative play and intellectual opportunities. This base structure can take us into nature, building structures or undertaking a Car Wash fundraiser for example.

As a grass-roots community charity, we see ourselves as invaluable to the health and care of our region. Prevention of problem behaviour, through our model of promoting responsible manhood amongst our local men and boys is a positive project for the community. It is s far more effective, more cost efficient and wholesomely warmer way to operate than picking up the pieces of broken souls and troubled youth...

So, it is with your kindness and ability to give that we are asking  for your involvment.

Donations (funding) are needed to run our valuable service. So we invite you to be apart of our rich history, which has seen amazing wealthy philanthropic individuals and many beautiful lower income earners donate to the cause. We wouldn't be still going without them.   And now its your time!  Please gift what you can and help the next generation of local boys have access to our long running, well respected and invaluable service.

With your help, we will continue to empower through service and do our part for a better world. With 19 years in servicing the local area, we intend to maintain a strong presence in our region and continue to do what we do. The founder Michael Light set up something that is beautiful, enriching and timeless. With current coordinator Chad Kolcze (BHMC, BEd, Author, Father) at the helm, it is his intention to help young lads walk proudly as respectful, helpful and confident men of the future.

Chad is calling out for your help.   As we need new tee's asap, funding to secure activities for the future,  and a club house the sooner the better...

Join the tribe and get involved as an Uncle (all good men). Register your young boy and allow the magic of the masculine to have its way. Donate funds by getting involved with this campaign.
