We are the University of Maine Equestrian Team! You may or may not have heard of us - for those of you who haven’t, we compete in several horse shows throughout the year run by the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) against other colleges in our area such as Dartmouth, UVM, Middlebury, Bates, Bowdoin, Colby-Sawyer, Endicott, and UNH. In addition to competitions, our club focuses on volunteering, fundraising, and building our knowledge of horsemanship. Recently, our previously small team has grown in size, allowing us to become truly competitive against the larger schools in our region. Over the past few years, we have sent riders to both the Regional and Zone competitions, with hopes of one-day going to Nationals. However, whether or not we win the blue ribbon every show, our main goal is to have fun and represent the University of Maine with pride.
Like many other sports, there is a large number of fees that come with competing at the collegiate level. In order to raise these funds, we host many of our own fundraisers, such as local pony rides, bake sales and catalog fundraisers. Unfortunately, with a growing team and the additional costs of facility space, lessons, trainer fees, travel and equipment, there are some expenses that we have a hard time covering. This year, we’d like to raise funds to help us cover these costs and attend as many shows as possible. We are asking for your support: any donation will help us to reach our highest potential as a team.
