Tuition for Ultrasound Tech school
Hello. My name is Ty.
I'm a professional dancer and dance teacher known to the World as Tarik Sultan. I've been a dancer most of my life and in 2005 I decided to make dance my sole career. It had always been a dream in the back of my mind and so after several years as a history teacher, I decided to make it a reality. I'll never regret that decision, however, in 20015 I decided to go back to school full time to obtain a career that will provide me with the financial stablity that I need to take care not only of myself, but my family as well.
After a 13 year struggle to earn my B.S to become a teacher. I was illegally blacklisted in my first job after calling attention to the fact that many of our students were functionally illiterate. After I regained my license I found work in other schools, but decided to resign due the unethical behavior in the system. I couldn't go along with a system that prevented me form helping children who were illiterate and struggling by giving them passing grades to make the schools look good rather than addressing their needs. Therefore, I decided to retire from teaching and I became a full time dancer.
Life circumstances forced me to reconsider my career choice. Lack of job security, benifits, or pension all hit home when after a choking episode I rip my esophagus I was unable to eat or drink without sever pain for a month and I was unable to dance. Subsequent bouts with pneumonia requiered my to be hospitalized. The economic down turn of the economy also affected me financially and made it clear just how vulnerable my situation was. However, what really forced my hand was the reality of my family situation.
My youngest sister has Down's Syndrome and is not able to advocate for or take care of herself. My mother is her sole caretaker. However, the fact that she will not be able to do this forever made me have to ask myself whether or not I would be able to take over if something should happen to her. Putting either of them in a facility is not an option for me and so in order to provide for them I have to be economically stable. As much as I love dance, I had to face the fact that it isn't going to give me the security in life that I thought it would be able to. The though of whether I'd be able to help them and myself in my old age left me many a sleepless night. I realized that I had to act now if I wanted to have the future I want to have. This is why I decided that the best option for me was to pursure a new career that was financially stable.
I had been thinking of doing this for several years but had no idea what I could do that wouldn't requier a decade of studying. A friend of mine suggested that since I had an appreciation of the human body and anatomy that I become an Ultrasound technician because it requered a short amount of time and is a well paying and growing field. I'm thoroughly enjoying the process of learning as it's helped me to cultivate strengths within myself I never thought I could. this experience has given me a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment that I have never had before and for that I give thanks everyday for this opportunity.
I realized from the beginning that to do this would require my undivided attention and dedication. I've sacrificed many dance opportunities and engagements and even disbanded two of my classes so that I could give my schooling the attention it needs. I've thrown myself into my education body and soul. My dedication has payed off as I've made the Dean's List at my school.
Unfortunately, because I have a previous bachelors degree, I don't qualify for any grants and there's a cap on the amount of money I'm allowed to take out in the FAFSA loan.
My tuition is $9,516.00 per semester. My FAFSA Loans only cover $7,850.00 leaving a balance of $1,666.00 per semester. I am requesting $10,000.00 which I figure should be enough to cover my tuition until graduation in December 2018 as well as cover the cost of my books and supplies. I have been going full time without brakes since the fall of 2015. I'm currently enrolled for the summer full time, but I will need to have the rest of the tuition in August in order to register for the Fall semester and continue. I've exhausted all of my savings to pay for school. Without help, I won't be able to continue
My first B.A took me 10 years to complete, (plus an additional 3 years of education courses), because I was ineligable for grants and my parents couldn't afford to pay my tuition. As I am already 50yrs old I have to make up for lost time. My mother is a senior citizen and I live in silent dread of what would happen to my sister if my mother took ill or was unable to care for her. This is why I'm taking on the load I am without any vacations. Time is of the essence. I know I can do this, but I need help. I wan't to be able to provide for my family as well as secure my future. This is why I'm asking for your help.
At 50yrs of age I'm starting life over for the third time. I'm experiencing a measure of success that I've never had before and I want to complete it. I can't allow another financial obstacle to block my way when I'm so close. I've done an aweful lot to get myself this far. I've always prided myself on paying my own way through life, but I have to face the fact can't do it alone and realize that there is no shame in that. I need help and so, even though I find it hard to do this, I'm asking for your help. Any help given will allow me to take care of my family as well as myself. I want to be a role model for other people to realize that no matter what they have gone through or no matter what age they may be, it's never too late to take charge of your life and make a change. I want my life's example to be a motivation for other people. I want my life's journey to make a difference in the World. You can help me achieve these goals.
I don't know how many years my mother has left, but I want her to enjoy them with peace of mind.
