Uganda Prison Fund

It starts with a dream...

It might sound kind of crazy.
But 3 years ago I had a dream.
While I was in Uganda.
About people in prison.

2 years ago, I was "randomly" contacted to join in
human rights efforts regarding prisoners in Uganda.

And less than 1 year ago,
I visited friends in prison in Uganda for the first time.

I now have the opportunity to return to prison in Uganda for the second time.

During my first trip to prison,
I was able to work with a human rights lawyer from
the Uganda Human Rights Commission.
She does prison assessments.

Because of gifts from generous donors like you,
we were able to help 78 people in prison.
By delivering and purchasing necessary supplies,
such as toilet paper, hand soap, laundry soap,
sanitary and hygiene items, and sugar.
Along with other gifts.

Unfortunately,  we were unable to help 600 people in the same prison.  Due to lack of funds.

I don't want to do that again.

I want to help  all 700 people this trip.

And if we raise more money than necessary,
no worries.

I've been invited to 5 different prisons.
And the first trip included only one.

The Ugandan Government does provide some food.
Usually one meal a day of porridge
 and beans.

They provide a ration of some supplies.

However, these supplies do not seem to be enough for all of the people,  or all of the needs.

Community members have graciously offered to cook meals for friends in prison.

Therefore,
I would like to  hire these friends to cook for prisoners.

This will achieve two goals.

1.  Provide income for individuals and communities and farmers who are willing and able to work.

and

2.  Provide nutrition for friends in prison.

Some other opportunties that I have include:

- Leading Meditation for prisoners.

These meditations will be non-religious.
But they will be spiritual in nature.
As every human being has a spirit.
Everyone can participate - of any religious faith,
or of none.
The intention is to decrease stress.
Decrease fear.
And increase love, peace, and a sense of well-being.
And perhaps open up hearts and minds to receive
love and guidance,  in a way that will be meaningful and personal to each individual.

-I may also have opportunities to meet with more leaders from the Uganda Human Rights Commission.
Prison Guards.  Government Officials.
And Religious and Political Leaders.
I would consider this a great honor.
As I have been attempting to build and continue relationships.
If I am lucky, I may have the opportunity to
Advocate for friends in prison,  to expidite a fair and timely court date.

I may be somewhat vague about times, dates,
and any further details,
due to purposes of safety, security, and confidentiality.

I leave towards the end of April.
And would greatly appreciate any help I can get,
by April 15th.

My airplane ticket has been purchased.
So I am not asking for that.

Thank you so much for considering.

I'm not sure exactly how the dream will end.
I only know, that it will be good.
