Thomas Fire Fund

$19,166 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 269 people in 18 months
Created December 31, 2017
My name is Shannon Iverson. My aunt, uncle and cousin have lost EVERYTHING this New Years Eve in a horrific house fire in Oakville, MO. Prayers during this time are needed. If you feel called to make a donation, no amount is too small. They are very overwhelmed right now. They are trusting in God but know it will be a long road to recovery. These funds will be used for basic necessities & living expenses. Thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers and donations! It means the world to us!

UPDATE: Hey Everyone! I wanted to give an update on the Thomas family and this go fund me page!!
We have raised $18,441.00 by 253 people in 5 days just on this page alone. I mean, WHAT?!! This is incredible!! Not to mention, the Thomas family has received clothing donations, gift cards, items for their doggie, Mia, and your generosity is just astounding!! It has been a rough week for them but they are trying to stay positive. I think everyday they think of something that didn't make it out of the fire and it saddens them for a little bit but then they remember that it could have turned out so much worse than it did. So they lift their spirits and keep thanking God for their blessings! Speaking of blessings....I want to share some of the blessings that have happened recently that have reminded them how great our God is.
*A family friend has offered up his condo to them so they have a place to stay until they can get their living situation figured out. Did I mention that this is a 2 bedroom / 2 bath condo (so Elise will have her own room and bathroom), fully furnished (so they will not have to buy furniture) and it is pet friendly (so Mia can come back to her family)?! He is going to move in with his gf and the insurance company is covering this cost!
*Janet has access to a rental car until she is able to buy something again (rental car paid/provided by insurance) She will be able to get some money back from the insurance for her loss.
*Janet was at Steinmart recently trying to buy some basic work outfits/shoes. Long story short is the cashier ended up being a lady that goes to Oak Bridge and knew Elise and was able to help her out with coupons (since Janet & Elise both were not able to retrieve their purse & wallets).
*Jane, Janet's sister, came in town from Tampa the other day and was taking a video of what is left of their house and a cardinal flew in front of her on the camera. (Cardinals are a big sign in our family of spiritual messengers!!)
*The owner of Goddard, where Elise used to work, called them and told them about a lot they have for sale and the location couldn't be more perfect for them...(this is an option for them to get something done sooner than waiting for their lot to be cleaned up and rebuilt and having to do it all through insurance).....Plus, I think they are ready for a fresh start after all of this.
The Thomas' have been staying with my mom and dad (another one of Janet's sisters). My parents are obviously letting them stay there as long as they need to.
Everyday, they are getting more organized and getting more things taken care of.
Both of their employers gave them the whole week off this past week.
So, as you can see the stars are aligning, many blessings are coming their way and they have many family, friends, acquaintances & even strangers that have went above and beyond to help them during this overwhelming experience.
So, I just wanted to take the time again to thank ALL of you for your kindness and love and generosity. Our God is so good....may He bless you and your loved ones!!

UPDATE: The American Red Cross came by yesterday as well and were able to provide a check to The Thomas’s. This enabled them to buy necessities like underwear, socks, shirts , shoes and some work attire that they needed to get back to work as soon as possible. So thank you to them for that donation! Also, tonight at 10:00 pm, News Channel 5 has an interview with Mike, Janet and myself. This was a great opportunity for them to be able to thank everyone for all of your support! So keep an eye out! We seriously can’t thank you all enough. You have went above and beyond and we are truly grateful for each of you.

Blessings!

Shannon

I wanted to give everyone an update. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, heartfelt words, monetary donations as well as donations of clothes, socks, shoes, blankets, dog food, gift cards, toiletries etc. I was with Mike, Janet and Elise for the majority of the day. I can tell you first hand that this was tragic, a complete shock, overwhelming, sad. We watched complete strangers come drop off supplies. In fact a lady drove up with her daughter, got out of her car with two empty bins and a bag with a sandwich and a soda and said...I know this isn’t much but it’s all I had. The generosity that I witnessed today is something that I will never forget. I cant even begin to imagine how my aunt, uncle and cousin feel. I couldn’t imagine not being able to come HOME...to a warm house, where I can relax. Unfortunately, they will not know this feeling again for a long time. Until that happens, I am going to do everything I can to support them in their time of need. You have all done an amazing job of donating and sharing. In fact this has been shared 1238 times!!! We have exceeded the goal that I originally set, but honestly, I have no idea what kind of money, Time, stress, this will take. I just want to encourage you, if you have not yet donated, please think about it, pray about it, put yourself in their shoes (actually they don’t even have their own shoes)....and if you still can’t find the means please just share this page! All of the money is going directly to them. A simple share can make a huge impact. May God bless you!
