I took a motorcyle tour across the country to promote the awareness of Osteoporosis: The Silent Killer.
At 60 years of age, I was diagnosed with a severe case of Osteoporsis. I was told that my bones were as brittle as that of an 85 year old woman and that I could be wheelchair bound within 3 to 5 years from a large bone fracture.
This diagnosis was devastating for me, since I have been very active all of my life with interests such as ballet, water sports, motorcycling and several other activities.
When I was 23 years old, I traveled 5,000 miles across the country on a motorcycle, after facing a major tragedy in my life. I did this in order to prove to myself that I could take on any challenge. Because this tour created so much attention, I felt that it would be a great way to promote this cause, strengthen my resolve, and reconnect with that young womans courage. Hopefully, I would also be able to face my fears of future battles with this disabling disease.
