Tornado Damage: UCP Facility and Equipment Exchange Program Temporarily Closed

Donations Needed

The UCP facility and Equipment Exchange Warehouse at 1200 9th Avenue North in the Germantown/Buena Vista area was impacted by the tornado on Monday, March 2, 2020.

While the building itself is still standing, we have much broken glass, electrical poles and lines down, roofing and other damages (see photo below). The large overhead doors to our Equipment Exchange Warehouse were blown out and the tornado tumbled through the warehouse, leaving behind dangerous metal shards from the overhead doors, and damaging much of our durable medical equipment.

In a nutshell, we cannot access our facility until some initial/protective clean-up has taken place. The building has been boarded up and temporarily secured. We have secured a disaster specialist service to address potential natural gas/electrical issues and remove any dangerous items from the warehouse so our staff and volunteers can access the facility to start inspecting and sorting usable durable medical equipment.

MONETARY DONATIONS NEEDED

We need substantial monetary donations. While UCP is insured, we have deductibles and other costs that will not be covered by insurance. For information about status of programs and services, volunteer needs and other regular updates, go to our website at www.ucpmidtn.org
