UCPD K-9 Support Fund

Donation protected
The University City Police Department began the process to bring a new K9 to University City in August of 2017. Our previous K9 partner “Mieky” tragically passed in 2015 from cancer, leaving the position vacant.   As of November 2017, we have acquired a dual-purpose K9, named “Rhino”.   We feel a dual-purpose K9 brings the most benefit to our community.

We are requesting donations from individuals/businesses who would like to partner with us to purchase equipment to properly provide for our new K9 partner, and extend our efforts to purchase additional patrol K9’s.

Below are five major benefits to having a canine unit:

Community Relations-Dogs are often able to break down barriers that may exist between officers and citizens.  A primary role of the K9 will be as an “ambassador” for the department

Officer and Citizen Safety-K9’s will be trained to search buildings that could potentially contain dangerous suspects, this means exposing the officers to less danger.

Tracking-K9’s are able to search for individuals, often times hours later.  They are able to search for dangerous suspects, lost children or missing adults.

Evidence Collection-K9’s can locate items with human scent on them that may have been discarded by suspects after commtting a crime.

Narcotics Detection-A K9 is properly trained in the detection of narcotics is able to alert to the odor of several different illegal substances, helping officers locate hidden drugs.  A strong proactive canine unit potentially helps to keep dangerous drugs off the street.

We need your help to ensure our K9 companion is kept safe while working and training. Any monetary donation will help us reach our goal of $25,000. You can donate through GoFundMe, in person, online or by sending a check to the City of University City-Police Department

Donors who provide contact information will receive a letter recognizing their donation. Interested in making a donation?  Checks can be made payable to the City of University City-Police Department, with Police K9 Fund in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to: Captain Fredrick Lemons, City of University City, 6801 Delmar Blvd, University City, MO 63130.   In-person donations can be made with check, cash or money order at the University City Police Department, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.

We are grateful for any assistance provided as we embark on this fundraising effort to ensure we maintain the safety of the community. Any donation will be much appreciated.
