Kids Need Art

Donation protected
Who:
Abby and Charline! We are two professional educators and artists looking to make a difference in our community through the joy of art.

What:
We are opening a creative arts studio for kids.

Where:
We found a perfect space in Westminster (North Denver).

When:
Good question! Our goal is to open the doors August 1st, 2015.

Why:
With diminishing funding and opportunities for creativity in our schools, we are developing a space for artistic expression and creative risk-taking.  We want kids to experience the true joy that results from making cool stuff.

How:

With your support, we hope to raise funds to outfit our space  (we need a sink), purchase supplies, and market ourselves.

Thanks in advance for your help. Even if you can't donate, please consider sharing our information to help spread the word.

A little about us...

"As an elementary school teacher, my goal is to ignite the hearts of each student by infusing each lesson with opportunities for creativity and exploration. The ability to think critically and solve problems requires courage, persistence, and ingenuity.

This is why I love art.  The act of picking up a paintbrush and splashing a line of red paint across an empty canvas requires a bold spirit. Taking time to transform what seems like a muddy mess into a personal masterpiece develops a resilient heart.  Seeing potential in materials, words, inspiration, and experiences feeds our innovative minds.

I see creativity as a muscle that can be built through time and practice.  Humans need opportunities to express themselves whether it is through writing, reading, drawing, sculpting, or playing.  By offering a space to safely develop creativity, we can help nurture the heart-mind connection."

Hi Friends!
Here is a little bit of info about me.
As an elementry school student, I struggled greatly with traditional learning. I often felt incapable of understanding things that seemed to come easily to other students. I started to view myself as a sweet, dumb kid that didn't have much to contribute. I am grateful to report that life changed for me in the fourth grade when my art teacher, Mrs. Johnson,  rolled her art cart into my classroom. My involvment in art class helped me to feel important, intelligent, confident, and unique. My love for art class pushed me, and helped me to realize my potential as I journeyed through middle school, high school, college, and grad school. (Frankly, it was the only reason that I stayed in school.)

I became an elementary art teacher because I was determined to bring the same type of hope, joy, and excitement to other non-traditional learners.  I have been teaching in the public school system for sixteen years and have been blessed to contribute to the artistic, emotional and academic growth of thousands of children. I have seen students take incredible risks, discover, experiment with new concepts, giggle with glee, make amazing things, and realize their own potential.

As outlined above, art is a powerful gift. I am so excited to bring more of it into our community! Thank you so much for taking this journey with us.
Sincerley,
Charline
