Help Save My Hand

Donation protected
My name is Matthew Field and I live on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.
In December of 2016, I saw a Doctor  for a small fissure, or crack, in the skin of the bottom knuckle of the middle finger of my right hand. It looked like it was getting infected. After the Doctor denying me antibiotics at first, and then refusing to culture the fluid coming out of the wound to see if it was some bacteria out of the ordinary, I ended up in the Emergency Room a few days later, where the fluid was cultured and I was put on antibiotics. The culture revealed I had an infection of Serratia Marcescens, a rare and hard to cure bacteria.
I went on a regime of multiple antibiotics, which seemed to work for a while, then the infection would blow up again, a pattern that has lasted through today. I’ve had in office surgical cleanings of the wound by an orthopedic surgeon, I’ve discovered I have Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease that affects the skin and connective tissue, and was likely the primary cause of the skin fissure to begin with, I’ve been on numerous courses of different and multiple antibiotics at the same time, had a couple more trips to the emergency room, and I still have an infection in my hand.
After two and a half years, and close to a dozen rounds of antibiotics, some of which lasted two months, a recent MRI has revealed the bone of my knuckle is infected. Both my new primary care physician and the infectious disease specialist I am working with have recommended intravenous antibiotics. In fact, I have no other real choice. They will put a picc line into my arm or chest and I will self administer the drug Ertapenem  once  daily for six weeks. I have no idea how this drug will affect me, but I am already having difficulties with working on the antibiotics I am on presently, and the side effects of this drug sound even more serious. It’s also been suggested I will not be able to do the landscaping work I do with the picc line port in me due to the vigorous nature of the work I do, along with the dirt and sweat inherent in it. On top of this, just the health insurance co-pay for the drug and a weekly nurse visit to change the dressing is estimated at around $2,500 in total over the six weeks.
I am stuck in a bad place with all this. I am faced with the definite possibility of not being able to work enough to pay my rent, food, and other bills (like my health insurance), and I have this large co-pay to face. The money I am asking for is to cover the insurance co-pay and my basic bills for two months while I do this therapy that I need to keep my hand from getting worse-or to keep my hand, period.
I’ve been struggling for two and a half years with this, doing the right things, on my own, and it’s getting scary. Genuinely scary. I don’t want to loose my hand or my life over this.
I need your help.
Thank you.
